The One Training Mistake You Should Avoid

It was a cold winters morning. I was shattered.

Working 60,70 sometimes 80+ hours per week (Night shifts and not including my commute)

It got to the point where I was out of breath moving from my desk to the fridge which was like 5 steps away and back to the desk.

So I hired a PT. (Which hurt because I used to be a PT)

Anyway long story short…

I got pretty strong and despite working nights was starting to feel pretty good too.

But that was all about to change.

On Tuesdays before my 7am session there was a group PT session and it was full of women my age.

(Oh yeah I was recently single because I through a relationship away working all the time)

Anyway me being strong for the first time in forever wanted to show off my strength…

(Several months early some little kid whispered to his attractive sister ‘Hows he a security guard i’ve got bigger arms than him’) – Actually he didn’t whisper he shouted and humiliated me.

Anyway so it felt good to be able to throw some weight around.

But I f*cked up.

I made the biggest training mistake anyone could make

Ego got in the way and I went straight into working weight…

Meaning I skipped the warm up and straight into 90kg Squats…

On a very cold morning, in a very cold warehouse gym, after being sat down for 12+ hours.

Yeah my back went…

so instead of throwing weight around, looking good, I was sorter just stood there for 30 minutes with a brave face whilst the class finished…

So Don’t make the one training mistake you should avoid and warm up.

Here’s Why –

Warming Up Help’s Increase Muscle Temperature

Warming into your exercise helps increase your muscle temperature… which is probably why its called a warm up? This helps the muscles become more flexible reducing the risk of strains or tears or your back going in front of your gym crush.

Joint Lubrication

Warming into your workouts is like the WD-40 of exercise. It loosens everything up, prevents friction and discomfort in your joints…

I never used to warm up before exercise, now I’m over 30 I need to warm up just getting out of bed to loosen up

Improves blood circulation

Have you ever started a car without oil? I have the results aren’t good. You end up stuck on the side of the road with passers by saying ‘Huh did you run out of fuel’..

Well not warming up is like starting your car without any petrol or oil then driving straight down the motor way… Zero to One hundred.  Same with working out. Not only are your muscles cold, but there hasn’t been the gradual increase of nutrients and oxygen to the area and your body hasn’t had enough time to get rid of the waste products there either.

Warming up allows a gradual delivery of oxygen  and nutrients to allow for proper muscle function whilst ridding waste products like lactate acid. Reducing the risk of injury and soreness.

Neuromuscular pathways

Have you ever got up too fast and tried to move but ended up stumbling? Warming up helps reduce faulty movement patterns by activating Neuromuscular pathways which improve coordination and motor control.
